The Debut of the Eco-Friendly Samsung Reclaim

DEFINING GREEN WITH SAMSUNG RECLAIM
An eco-friendly overachiever, Samsung Reclaim from Sprint is designed with environmentally-responsible components and fully recyclable packaging, making it the perfect wireless phone for the eco-conscious consumer.

• Its bio-plastic material, made from corn, makes up 40 percent of the Reclaim’s outer casing. Samsung Reclaim is free of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), phthalates, and nearly free of brominated flame retardants (BFR): three materials commonly targeted on green electronics guidelines.
• The outer packaging and the phone tray inside the box are made from 70 percent recycled materials. The images and text on the box as well as the phone warranty information are printed with soy-based ink.
• The typical thick paper user manual has been replaced with a virtual manual that users can access at www.sprint.com/reclaimsupport.
• The charger is Energy Star approved for meeting the highest energy efficiency standards set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy. It consumes 12 times less power than the Energy Star standard for standby power consumption and is equipped with a visible notification to alert the user to unplug the handset once it’s fully charged.

Sprint currently offers more eco-friendly accessories than any other U.S. telecommunications company. In May, Sprint announced the availability of new eco-friendly accessories, including the SOLIO Mono solar-powered charger and two new cell phone carrying cases made from 100 percent recycled plastic water bottles.

When customers purchase Samsung Reclaim from Sprint, $2 of the proceeds will benefit The Nature Conservancy’s Adopt an Acre program, which supports land conservation across the United States and protects some of the world’s most beautiful and important natural habitats.

Samsung Omnia has received much attention than all other phones from Samsung combined. And since then their phones are becoming more popular than even Nokia’s as they continue to produce sleek good looking phones that has mass appeal. Samsung Omnia is a touchscreen smartphone with impressive specs and is based on Windows Mobile 6.1 with a new interface of its own. Let’s take a closer look at the mobile phone and decide if the phone is worth the hype or not.

Design

These iPhone clone phones like LG Renoir, Samsung Tocco Lite or even Nokia N97 has nothing new in their outer design perspectives. The phone is slim, at 12.5mm and the whole 112 X 57 mm face is dominated by the large touchscreen and minimalist controls. It feels very good in hand and weighs a minimal 122grams.

Touchscreen

While we are accustomed to see the 320 X 480 iPhone-ish resolution in other smartphones, the screen resolution of Omnia is inferior to them at 400 X 240. So the screen looks less spacious than its competitors. We didn’t expect the resistive touchscreen to be as responsive as the iPhone and it met our expectation. Sometimes, a very good pressure is needed to register the touches. However, every touch on the screen is verified by a decent feedback buzz which makes it a bit more comfortable. The keyboard of the touchscreen is fiddly to use and at times very inaccurate. It is quite impossible to type correctly at even moderate speeds.



Interface

The standard WinMo interface is modified by Samsung to offer better usability with the touchscreen. In the homescreen there are some graphical widgets which you can drag into the blank space to display more information like recent e-mails, time, phone profile, currently playing music tracks, calender, clocks etc. You can completely customize the front end to meet your needs. There is also the more standard method of launching the application from the grid menu view. The music player, phonebook, even the alarm clock has been modified with the finger friendly touchscreen makeover.



Camera

There is a 5 MP camera with LED Flash in the rear and and a VGA video call camera on the front. The resolution is quite impressive bu the LED flash is incapable to light the subjects in complete darkness – a Xenon flash could have done better. Except that the low light shots had a fair amount of noise and the focus is a little softer than a true digital camera, the overall image quality is more than impressive



Speed

With the help of a fast Marvell PXA312 624 MHz processor, it boasts an iPhone 3GS like speed and responsiveness. Application launch or webpage rendering is fast and smooth. Web Browsing is a nice experience on its Opera Mobile 9.5 Web Browser. There is also an accelerometer that rotates the screen as you would expect and it does so with a nice little animation! The GPS is also fast and has A-GPS capability.

Connectivity

It is a quad band GSM phone that can be used all over the world in all standard frequency bands. It also connects to HSDPA 2100 bands and supports speeds upto 7.2 MBps. It also has 802.11b/g WiFi connectivity other than having GPRS and EDGE Connectivity. There is standard Bluetooth with A2DP connectivity to attach stereo headsets. There is also a 3.5 mm headphone jack to let you attach your favorite headphone to it to listen to best quality music.

The Good

The Bad

The unusually named Nokia Surge handset is designed for social networking, and it is exclusive in the US.

You can perhaps think of the Surge as a cut-down version of the earlier Nokia E75. The Surge features an identical 2.4″ QVGA 320 x 240 pixel auto-rotating display, and a very similar slide-out QWERTY keyboard. On the back is a 2 megapixel camera that can record QVGA-quality video. The Surge comes with GPS, microSD expandable memory (up to 8GB), Bluetooth and USB connectivity plus a media player and FM radio.

This is an HSDPA-capable 3.5G device, with maximum download speeds of up to 3.6 Mbps where coverage is available. The Surge only supports 850 and 1900 MHz WCDMA (3G), so if you are travelling outside of the US then you will have to rely on the Surge’s quad-band GSM support. There’s no WiFi on the Surge, so everything will need to be downloaded through the network or transferred via a local connection to a PC.

Software is one of the key features of the Nokia Surge. This is a Symbian S60 smartphone, with a web browser, email and instant messaging client. The Surge uses Juicecaster to access popular social networking sites such as MySpace, Twitter and Facebook. It can also use a number of  other services such as Mobile Banking, Navigator and video and audio downloads.

The Surge weighs 4.38 ounces (124 grams) and measures 3.84 x 2.28 x 0.61 inches (98 x 58 x 15mm). The large 1500 mAh battery gives the Surge up to 4 hours talktime on 3G and 16 days standby time.

Nokia say that the Surge should be available from July 19th for just under $80 from AT&T and other retailers. This is a nice phone, get yours now!!

The new Samsung M7600 device has many advantages, the most important of them being the high-quality sound playback due to the components from Bang & Olufsen. In this post we take time out to look into this mysterious creation of Korean designers.

Appearance

Samsung M7600 has a unique design, and at first glance the device resembles a small mp3/media player. As you can see, the phone is not very large and on the upper end there is a 3.5-mm jack for connecting the headset and close by it there are external speakers are situated. Such an arrangement ensures high-quality and loud sound

There are only three buttons under the screen (adoption and cancellation of the call and the return button).

The size of the screen is 2.8 inches and the resolution of matrix 240h400 points is made by AMOLED-technology.

File Manager

The file manager is very handy. The embedded memory of the M7600 is about a 90 MB, the memory card refers to a capacity of up to 32 GB, as claimed by the manufacturers.

Camera

Samsung M7600 is not really a cool camera phone; it has a 3Mp autofocus camera without optical zoom. There is a LED flash-light, the range of the work of which is equal to 40-50 cm.

The Media Player

The player has a user-friendly interface; it is easy to work with the musical setting.The album covers are displayed on the screen, you can scroll around in a circle, selecting the desired one. Frankly, this is not always easy, because the graphics are slow, and you are simply wasting your time.

The player gives a very high quality, clean sound. You can safely connect good headphones, not being afraid that your favorite song would sound like something is wrong. The set headphones in this series are «fair», but, at least they do not fly out from the ears, and the wire does not freeze in negative temperature.

FM-radio

The quality of the reception is at a high level – you can listen without any problems to the majority of stations. The screen displays the name of the station, and also the composition, as well as other information, in a running line at the top of the display.

The Auto search feature finds about 30-40% and up to 99 stations can be added into the memory, just what radio fans of the mega-cities need. A song playing on the radio can be recorded (MP3 format, bite rate of 128 Kb / s), and then you can find the folder with the downloaded song. And if you do not know the name of favourite songs aired on the radio, the function of “music recognition” (Find music) will help you.

Recording

In a quiet environment the quality of Dictaphone recording is high and the maximum recording time is limited to one hour. After recording you can immediately listen to the clip.

Extra

Google Maps as always eat the GPRS-traffic with a great appetite, the map looks very detailed on such a quality display, the routes are laid. The GPS-receiver is working correctly; there is no problem with the reception of signals from satellites. There is no special program for the GPS, except for simple applications, pointing the coordinates and altitude.

Samsung M7600  may not be priced too attractive, but taking into consideration the excellent characteristics of the gadget, we can say that it is worth its high cost.

If rumors are true Apple’s iPod touch and iPod nano could get a camera soon. Several Web sites have reported that the iPod touch and iPod nano may get the additions which could challenge the popular Flip video camera, which is now owned by Cisco Systems.

Currently, only all three models of Apple’s iPhones have a still camera. The iPhone 3GS also allows video recording and editing and makes it easy to upload videos to YouTube, but it’s a poor design since it doesn’t have a flash module for low-light situations.

One Web site, citing sources in Asia, said Apple has placed a “massive” order for camera modules for the iPod touch. Another site said new case designs said to be for the iPod touch and iPod nano have a hole for the camera. If this became reality i’m sure no one wont regret. Imaging your iPod with a 5 mega-pixel camera
